RESUME
ARTIST STATEMENT
My work emerges from the space between the visible and the felt, where emotion, memory, and identity collide. Using a simplified, semi-abstract figurative language, I strive not for literal. realism, but for resonance to evoke feelings and emotions rather than depict. Through textured layers and the use of a palette knife, my paintings communicate the silent undercurrents of women's experiences.
Figures in my paintings are intentionally undetailed. Their forms are pared back, and their features softened so they can act as vessels of universal truth rather than singular personalities. In their gestures, posture, and silent proximity, they convey stories of femininity, companionship, identity, and mental health, inviting viewers to project their own memories and emotions into the scene.
Born and brought up in Nigeria, my work reflects the cultural and societal nuances that I have observed and experienced as I journeyed through life and the places I have been, which create the environment for my subjects. My practice is deeply personal. It draws upon my lived experiences, internal dialogues, and emotional landscapes. The texture in my paintings mirrors the texture of life itself.
